Top Dog

Royalty has arrived on the Jameson campus and Carlin is now sharing his throne...

Sir Winston is the English Bulldog seated next to Carlin. Winston is much less active than Carlin, except when it comes to skateboarding...

Rumors have circulated that Winston is actually Carlin's father. However, the mother has not been found so that's only speculation. Speaking of mothers...

Winston is only staying for a short spell. His highness (and his hiney) will be going home soon so we are enjoying his royal butt while we have him.

Twinkie Ice Cream?!?

There's no denying the deliciousness of Hostess Twinkies. When they went AWOL a few years ago, many people lost their marbles. Fortunately they were able to recover their marbles when Twinkies returned to the snack aisle. Now Hostess has taken the tasty treat to a whole new level...

Twinkie-flavored Ice Cream!

Here is the story.

As if we needed another reason to eat ice cream...

Board & Brush

The Jameson Camp Women's Auxiliary is hosting a Board & Brush fundraiser on February 4th.

https://boardandbrush.com/brownsburg/events/jamison-camp-public-event-65/

This is a great opportunity for people to support Jameson in a fun way. You will have a paintbrush and a board but you won't be bored!

I've been trying to get a body-painting fundraiser going...maybe next time.

The Final Countdown

Let the countdown begin...125 days until Summer Camp! Soon enough children will be running around Jameson Camp (and adults who act like children).

McChanges to the Big Mac

The old Big Mac has undergone some slight modifications. Now at McDonald's nationwide are the Grand Mac and the Mac Jr.

This is perfect timing for the United States. Just when we were getting a little too thin, McDonald's saved the day by offering up more calories.

Grammar Police

I've been caught and detained by the Grammar Police.

Today, Erin and I attended a Press Release workshop and I learned that it's correct to use only one space after a period. Who knew? Certainly not me! Also I learned that using exclamation points is not good...I can't believe it! And last but not least, I learned that there should only be one comma in this sentence: the red, yellow and green hats were for sale.  I would have put a comma after yellow but apparently that is called 'The Oxford Comma' and it's seen as 'snooty' and 'uppity.'

This is shocking, scary, and outrageous.  I'll stand for none of it!

"What should I do with my children?"

That's a question I often ask myself.  Sometimes it's difficult to come up with an answer, particularly since I don't have any children.

For those of you who do have kids, you probably wonder where to send those little rascals when they're a little too rambunctious. Boarding school is always an option, but for something less drastic, what about summer camp?

Liberty Lake Day Camp owner Andy Pritikin wrote this great article about the benefits of summer camp for today's youth:

Now More Than Ever!

If that doesn't work, you can always take the kids back to their parents (it works for me every time).

Can you believe Betty turns 95 today?  She looks amazing! Everyone loves her...she is the definition of a classy lady.

New Interns (& Their Smiling Faces)

Yesterday was the first time that our 2 new interns worked on the same day.

Each girl has a beautiful name and a beautiful spirit!  I'm very much looking forward to working with them.  Delia speaks Spanish and has a lovely accent; by the time her internship is over, I will be fluent in Español and I will have a nice tan.  I haven't decided on a Spanish name yet, though I'm thinking something exotic like Santiago or Alejandro or El Lampiño.

As a bonus, Stefy Boo is back to complete her remaining hours.  This means I went from at one point having no roommates to now having 3. This is indeed a joyous occasion...

source
Working with 3 girls is tremendously exciting for me, although it does mean I will need to be on top of my game at all times.  I'm sure they expect a certain level of entertainment from me.  The key is learning each girl's interests and what makes them laugh.  Whether it's talking in a British accent (I can do that), spilling water on my pants (I can do that), or juggling knives (I can't do that), I need to have an arsenal of tricks at my disposal.

¡Bienvenido, chicas, y gracias por la empresa y el espresso!

Drops of Jupiter

Winter Storm Jupiter was mean to the Midwest this weekend. Unfortunately 6 people lost their lives due to traffic accidents; Kansas, Missouri, and Oklahoma were the hardest hit areas.

A Kansas trooper, however, was very lucky after this semi almost crushed his cruiser.

Thankfully this police officer was able to keep his life but sorry to the loved ones of those who weren't as fortunate.

Korean Thomas - Future Olympian

Before coming to Jameson Camp, Korean Thomas was very shy and didn’t like to initiate social contact. After her first year, Korean’s social skills and ability to make new friends greatly increased. In fact, in her third year attending, Korean says her favorite part of camp is “getting to meet everybody and make friends with many of the different counselors and campers.” Korean has received help from many counselors, but she specifically looks up to Bailey, who in her first year helped her to open up and make new friends.

These social skills Korean has learned have helped her with making friends at school, which may be very important in the future. Korean currently lives with her dad, but will soon be moving to live with her mom, resulting in a school change. A new school means a new environment and new peers. However, Korean isn’t as worried about making new friends after learning how to connect with fellow campers every year at Jameson Camp.

One specific area where Jameson Camp helped Korean blossom is through recreation. Because of the confidence she has learned at Jameson Camp she has joined the school’s basketball team and continues to work on her skills at camp. Korean is also proud of her swimming skills. She believes that she has always been a good swimmer, but now she can keep above water while supporting four or five of her fellow campers. With this improvement Korean now has dreams of becoming an Olympic swimmer!

Some of Korean’s other future aspirations include attending college, writing poetry, and playing professional basketball. Korean enjoys writing as an escape from boredom, but the recognition that she received after sharing some of her work with campmates at Jameson Camp has inspired her to keep moving forward – “People couldn’t believe that I wrote that and said my poem was so good.” Korean sees poetry as a way to express herself. She says, “There is more to life so you look at life and you write.” Korean enjoys reflecting on life and sharing her findings with campers and counselors at Jameson Camp.

Korean plans to come back in the summer mainly because it is fun and it helps everyone. “People that don’t really fit in can come to this camp and have fun with everyone; there are no problems here,” she said.

Milk and Bread and Cookies

Winter Storm Jupiter is angry and he is unleashing his fury across the U.S.

Earlier this week, Portland, Oregon received more than 15 inches of snow.  They broke records and also received thundersnow.  If you've never seen thundersnow, here is a great video with weatherman Jim Cantore:

Cantore Thundersnow Montage

Now the storm is nearing the Midwest and it's bringing along the worst winter weather offender...ice. Unless you have a Zamboni or ice skates, there's not much you can do on a frozen highway. Hopefully a lot of people will heed the warnings and stay home this weekend, which of course brings us to the bread and milk.

Grocery stores will be crowded today.  Most people will stock up on the essentials like milk and bread but other people named Kevin will buy milk and cookies.

Indecisive

Yesterday around 10:30 am, Erin, Delia, and I talked about where we'd like to eat lunch.  Like a Google search result, Erin named off about 20 restaurants.

"Outback"
"Chili's"
"Olive Garden"
"Texas Roadhouse"
"Sonic"
"Panera"
"Chipotle"

We talked about them and finally came to this conclusion: We couldn't decide where to eat.  So I thought of a great idea:

"I should make an app that helps people make decisions."

Delia said that would be great but there have probably been those types of apps created already.  I checked and she was right.  I thought, "Perfect, I'll just download the app and now we can finally pick a place to eat."

The irony is, there were so many to choose from, I couldn't decide on a decision-maker app.  How do people ever get anything done?

Concert for a Cause

On January 21st, the Indianapolis Art Center will be hosting Concert for a Cause featuring the music of Pat McGee and Chad Mills.  All ticket revenue goes to Jameson Camp...it's hard to find a better cause than children!

There are 200 total tickets available and we're unsure how many have been purchased already.  Hopefully it will be a full house with people enjoying music and food.  They will also have a chance to meet the artists.

Here is a sample of their music:

Pat McGee - "Must Have Been Love"

Chad Mills - "Engage in Change"

Chad is an Indy guy and this song gives a great message about anti-bullying.

It should be a fun night!

Turn up the Heat

Wednesday night / Thursday morning was crisis mode for Jameson Camp.  The heater in the Jameson Center stopped working and a wedding party was coming Saturday.  Some people were panicking and I began to wonder if we'd all need to cuddle together to stay warm.  Fortunately it didn't come to that as Yvonne 'Wonder Woman' Matlock stepped in and saved the day.  Thanks to her friends Cathy Lee and Michelle Caldwell of the JC Women's Auxiliary, they were able to make a few phone calls and within 24 hours, a new heating unit was donated AND installed.

Sincerest thanks to the fine folks at Habegger Corporation, Chapman Heating, and Carrier Corporation!

ANOTHER DOPPELGANGER!?!

Yesterday was Ve-Lyssa's first day working at Jameson Camp.  She is one of the 2 new Development Interns and when she showed me some of her Instagram photos, something struck me.  It was a stinkbug that was flying around.

"She looks like someone," I thought.  "Two someones..."

2017 Summer Camp Dates

Is 5 months a long time?  It seems like it is, but then it flies by like a cheetah on a jetpack.

Summer Camp 2017 at Jameson is (less than) 5 months away.  The first week of Day Camp begins on Monday, May 29th.  The last week of JC Juniors Camp ends on Saturday, July 29th.

For 2 months, this place will be hopping like a bunny on a jetpack (the cheetah let him borrow it).  It certainly feels like the calm before the storm here...but a good storm!

On an unrelated note, the readership has dwindled on this blog.  Is the readership in any way related to the mothership?  Maybe that's where they all went.

Is it difficult to write for so few people?  No.  Like I was always taught, just picture everyone in their underwear...it makes writing so much easier.

Happy New Year!

2017 has arrived at Jameson Camp.  I assume everyone else is in 2017 already, although I know Hawaii is a few hours behind.

Will it be a good year?  I'm not sure what 'it' is but this is definitely a Goodyear:
